Paintings by Marketa Sivek

May 9, 2015 - August 29, 2015

The “Wind Series” illustrates the raw essence and vitality of moments that we often experience and try to capture in a photograph: the flicker of the reflection of the sun on the water in the midst of Summer’s grandeur, or the first sign of Spring, something we seem to wait endlessly for. We often seek to rediscover those moments when they have passed. The epic beauty of nature relies on the magnitude of details built into our memories. When the elements of those memories are stripped to their purest form the result is undeniably liberating.

About the artist
Marketa Sivek was born in Vsetin, Moravia (Czechoslovakia). She grew up under communist rule and experienced the influence of the Soviet Union on the freedoms and lifestyles of the people of her country and her own family. After the peaceful Velvet Revolution and the fall of communism, Sivek made a decisive move to immigrate to the United States and later on dedicate her life to painting. She is a self taught artist living and working in Chicago. Sivek’s art is represented by galleries in Chicago, St. Louis, Atlanta and Los Angeles. Her work is part of many corporate and private collections, among them Deloitte, American Restaurant Association, and the private collections of Oprah Winfrey and Tom Hamilton, of the band Aerosmith.
