art in our schools

ArtStart proudly supports and complements the incredible work of art educators in our schools by bringing additional artists, creative experiences, and community connections into the classroom. Together, we help expand access to the arts and enrich learning through diverse, hands-on creative opportunities.

Culture Tap

Culture Tap is a collaborative partnership with the School District of Rhinelander highlighting creativity across the community through interactive art projects, educational programming, and access to a wide variety of artists from the Northwoods and beyond.

Past Culture Tap Artists:

Sara Hanson, Minneapolis based sculptor

Julie Benda, Minneapolis based comic writer and sculptor

Takayuki Ishii, Japanese indigo dye artist

This program is supported in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts

Mental Health Wellness Day at James Williams Middle School

As part of James Williams Middle School Mental Wellness Days, ArtStart has brought in several artists to lead hands-on creative experiences designed to help students reset, relax, and recharge.  From crafts and movement activities to music appreciation and creative mindfulness, the low stress sessions give students a much-needed creative brain break during the school day.

We know that arts Participation plays a powerful role in supporting mental health and emotional regulation - especially at the middle school level, where creative outlets can become limited as art turns into a graded class or elective.  By introducing these experiences, we're opening the door for students to decompress and explore new ways of thinking.
